No fewer than six people have lost their lives following a fatal head-on collision involving a trailer and a Canter truck on the Potiskum–Damaturu highway in Yobe State on Thursday.
According to report the Canter truck was driving against the flow of traffic when it rammed into an oncoming trailer.
The force of the impact trapped four occupants inside the trailer. They were later confirmed dead after emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) deployed a crane to lift the trailer and recover the bodies.
Two other victims, who were occupants of the Canter truck, also died in the crash.
Meanwhile, two additional individuals survived the accident and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
FRSC officials have commenced investigations into the cause of the accident, while warning motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules to prevent further loss of lives on highways.
