Nigeria to Release First Zombie Film on Jan 30 (VIDEO)

Nigeria’s first full-length zombie horror film, Alive Till Dawn, will be released in cinemas nationwide on January 30, 2026.

The film is co-produced by actor Uzor Arukwe, who also plays a leading role, alongside producer Leo Obienyi. It is directed by Sulaiman Omotola Ogegbe, with a screenplay written by Daisy Olowu.

Set in Abuja, Alive Till Dawn follows a group of civilians, police officers and suspected criminals trapped inside a police station after a sudden outbreak turns people into zombies.

As the infection spreads and public order collapses, the characters are forced to work together despite deep mistrust. The story centres on survival, fear and moral choices as they attempt to stay alive until morning.

Speaking on the project, Arukwe said the film was designed to explore a genre rarely attempted in Nigerian cinema.

“We wanted to tell a survival story that feels familiar to Nigerian audiences but is presented in a way they do not usually see on screen,” he said.

The cast includes Shine (Sunshine) Rosman, Michael Dappa, Chisom Agoawuike, Sani Mu’azu, Papasam Obadan, and Ogom Akunaeziri, among others.

The official trailer, released earlier this week, has drawn attention on social media, particularly on X, where viewers praised its cinematography, action sequences and tone.

Many described the film as Nigeria’s clearest attempt yet at a modern zombie narrative, similar in style to international productions rather than folklore-based horror.

While Nollywood has previously explored outbreak-themed stories, including the 2014 film OjujuAlive Till Dawn is a more direct and large-scale approach to the zombie genre.

Alive Till Dawn will open incinemas across Nigeria on January 30, 2026.
