Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North in the National Assembly on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has died at the age of 52.
The News Chronicle gathered that Akwashiki passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2025, in India, where he had been undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness.
Akwashiki, a former Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, was first elected to the Senate in 2019 and re-elected in 2023. He made history as the only senator from Nasarawa North to secure two consecutive terms since the state was created in 1996.
Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, he was known for his strong grassroots following and commitment to constituency-focused projects.
He is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.
