Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from a Lagos hospital following a tragic road accident in Ogun State that claimed the lives of two members of his close circle.
Wednesday’s joint statement from the governments of Lagos and Ogun state confirmed the Nigerian born British boxer medically capable to keep recovering at home. Officials remarked that Joshua is still grieving the death of his buddies and is severely impacted by the event.
On Monday, when a Lexus SUV transporting Joshua collided with a stationary truck, the incident happened on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway. When the disaster struck, he was touring along with members of his crew.
The News Chronicle gathered that doctors checked Joshua’s condition before granting his release from Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi. Government authorities portrayed him as bodily stable but emotionally agitated.
Both governments, Lagos State Commissioner for Information Gbenga Omotoso and Ogun State Special Adviser on Information Kayode Akinmade, offered condolences to the families of the deceased, named as Lateef Ayodele and Sina Ghami in the statement signed together.
Governors Babajide Sanwo Olu and Dapo Abiodun were acknowledged for their concern and intervention following the incident and appreciated the outpouring of public sympathy. Appreciation was also given to the medical staff caring for the survivors.
Following his release, Joshua went supposedly straight to a mortuary to honor his departed buddies one last.
