Chelsea have parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca with immediate effect following intense behind the scenes tensions that escalated over the last two days.
The separation was mutually agreed after talks between the club hierarchy and the Italian tactician failed to ease growing disagreements over sporting control and long term planning. Chelsea are now expected to move quickly to appoint a new manager as preparations begin for the next phase of the season.
The News Chronicle understands that Maresca’s relationship with one of Chelsea’s senior directors deteriorated significantly, with sources linking the situation to the same executive who previously clashed with former managers Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino. Those internal strains reportedly created an unsustainable working environment despite relative stability on the pitch.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on X, stating that Chelsea and Maresca had agreed to end their working relationship with immediate effect after tensions peaked within a 48 hour window. Romano added that an official club statement is expected, with the decision already finalised.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Maresca helped restore tactical structure, improved Chelsea’s domestic consistency, and oversaw the integration and growth of several young players. He also guided the club to a strong league finish and improved European performances, earning credit for steadying a squad that had endured frequent managerial changes.
Chelsea’s focus now shifts to selecting a successor, as the club once again resets its technical direction amid continued scrutiny of its leadership structure.
