Makinde Enacts N892bn Oyo 2026 Budget Signals Push for Bigger Development Spend

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has signed the N892 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, marking the start of another fiscal year anchored on infrastructure expansion and social investment.

The signing ceremony in Ibadan drew top government officials and lawmakers, with the administration highlighting its consistency in meeting budget timelines. Governor Makinde said the spending plan reflects a disciplined and realistic approach to public finance, adding that efforts to grow internally generated revenue will continue to reduce reliance on federal allocations. He urged state ministries and agencies to align closely with implementation priorities.

The News Chronicle understands that the governor has left room for a possible supplementary budget in 2026 if revenue performance exceeds projections, a move that could push Oyo State’s total spending above the one trillion naira mark for the first time.

Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly Adebo Ogundoyin praised the smooth passage of the budget, describing it as a product of strong cooperation between the executive and legislative arms. He said lawmakers will intensify oversight to ensure effective delivery across all zones of the state.

With the budget now in force, implementation begins immediately, extending the administration’s steady expansion of Oyo State’s fiscal framework and reinforcing its focus on growth driven development.
