Assembly Applauds Lawal’s Strides, Backs 2026 Budget Push

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has praised Governor Dauda Lawal for what it described as remarkable strides in repositioning the state on the path of balanced growth and development.

The Speaker, Alhaji Isma’ila Moriki, gave the commendation while welcoming the governor to the Chamber for the formal presentation of the 2026 budget proposal.

“We are highly impressed to welcome Gov. Dauda Lawal for the presentation of the 2026 budget proposal in the fulfillment of our constitutional mandate and responsibility in the annual budget process,” Moriki said.

He noted that the annual budget presentation remains a vital democratic tradition that fosters constructive engagement between the Executive and the Legislature, especially on revenue projections and development priorities.

Moriki said members of the 7th Assembly were satisfied that every budget under the current administration had aligned with the Rescue Mission Agenda since Lawal assumed office.

He described the governor’s commitment as unwavering, saying Lawal “is standing like the Rock of Gibraltar” in pursuing the six strategic pillars of his agenda: security, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social intervention.

According to him, the multi-sectoral approach adopted by the administration is helping pull the state out of years of neglect, insecurity, infrastructural decay, and weak public service delivery.

He outlined key projects being executed, including urban renewal works, rehabilitation of health centres, construction of classrooms, progress on the state airport, and the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau road project.

In the area of security, Moriki highlighted the creation of the State Security Trust Fund, the Community Protection Guards, and the provision of operational vehicles and logistics for security agencies.

On social programmes, he listed the settlement of accumulated gratuities for retired workers, grants to SMEs, conditional cash transfers under the AGILE project, and the establishment of the State Disability Board.

Moriki said the administration’s achievements were building “a monumental legacy” that future generations would use to judge Lawal’s service to the people. He added that the results so far validated the confidence voters expressed during the 2023 elections.

He expressed optimism that the 2026 budget would consolidate gains across key sectors, noting that current indicators show Zamfara is “on the verge of becoming one of the fastest-growing states” in infrastructure, e-governance, and internally generated revenue.

Moriki assured that the Assembly would thoroughly scrutinise the budget through engagements with constituents and stakeholders to ensure a “citizen-centered and realistic” spending plan.

He reaffirmed the readiness of the House to receive submissions from partners, civil society groups, and individuals while promising speedy consideration of the budget in line with due process.

The Speaker also reflected on the Assembly’s legislative contributions, recalling the passage of several bills aimed at tackling insecurity and reducing poverty. These include the laws establishing the Community Protection Guard, the State Security Trust Fund, and the State Roads Funds Board.

Moriki condoled with the governor and residents affected by recent security incidents and prayed for comfort for bereaved families and healing for the injured.

He thanked the governor for his continued support to the legislature, noting the ongoing upgrade of the Assembly Chamber to enhance efficiency.

As the House begins its oversight responsibilities, Moriki urged all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to strictly adhere to budgetary provisions, assuring constituents that lawmakers remain committed to serving with integrity and dedication.
