The Christian Association of Nigeria in Niger has strongly condemned the brutal raid on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, where armed men stormed the premises under the cover of darkness.
In a statement released in Minna, the Chairman of CAN in Niger, Rev. Bulus Yohanna, lamented the harrowing attack, noting that the association was deeply shaken by the abduction of pupils, students, teachers and a security guard.
According to Yohanna, the marauders crept into the schools between 1am and 3am, unleashing terror as they shot the security guard and whisked away their captives.
The chairman, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, condemned the assault as “distressing and unacceptable”.
He voiced grave concern for the safety of the abducted victims and the anguish gripping their families as they await news of their loved ones.
Yohanna explained that CAN was working hand in hand with security operatives, community leaders and government officials to bolster ongoing rescue operations.
He urged residents to keep a cool head and give full cooperation to security personnel working to restore order.
The cleric also called on Christians and Nigerians at large to lift the victims in prayer, seeking divine intervention for their swift and safe return.
Reaffirming CAN’s unwavering commitment to defending children and tightening security around educational institutions, he declared: “May the Lord grant quick release to those abducted and continue to protect His people from all dangers.”
