Netizens React as Police Charge Woman for Falsely Accusing Husband of Defiling Their Daughters

A 29-year-old woman, Mrs. Chisom Okonkwo, has been charged to court by the Enugu State Police Command for criminal defamation and providing false information against her husband, Mr. Okonkwo Ozioma.

Chisom had in 2024, accused her husband of raping and defiling their two daughters, aged two and five, leading to his arrest.

However, medical examinations revealed that the two minors were not defiled, even as they admitted that their father never touched them.

The children also disclosed that their mother had instructed them to lie about the abuse.

Subsequently, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police had directed that Chisom be charged to court.

The case, filed at the Enugu Magistrate Court and marked CHARGE NO: CM/861c/2025, includes two counts- defamation of character and giving false information to law enforcement.

The first charge accuses Chisom of publicly defaming her husband in August 2024 at Adoration Junction, Emene, Enugu, by falsely claiming he had defiled their daughters, exposing him to hatred, ridicule, and reputational damage.

This offense is punishable under Sections 323 and 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2004.

The second charge alleges that on October 27, 2025, at the State Intelligence Department (SID) in Enugu, Chisom knowingly provided false information to police detectives, leading to her husband’s arrest and detention.

The police argued that the false report misled officers into taking action they would not have pursued had the truth been known, an offense punishable under Section 154(1)(a)&(b) of the same Criminal Code.

Reacting to the development, a netizen, Prof Mgbeke, who led ‘The Truth Shield’ campaign that unraveled the truth around the matter, lamented the usual haplessness of men when they face such a case, urging society to put an end to such trial by ordeal.

He wrote, “Gender Weaponization against our men must stop.”

Another netizen, Moji Danisa regretted that some women could be mean to accuse their husbands of crimes they know they did not commit, hailing the commitment of crusaders who waded into the matter and unveiled the truth.

“What this means is that he was wrongfully accused by his wife and mob-lynched on social media.

“This is how men are destroyed or killed on false accusations. I believe this will benefit a lot of innocent men, because the voice of the male person is usually drowned out in such cases.

“Do you know not one person gave him a fair hearing? I feel so bad. Only God stepped in for this man. He could have been lynched. He could have been jailed for the rest of his life.

“We should also appeal to the Nigerian Police to approach such cases with caution and stop people from filming when making arrests or interrogating suspects,” the netizen wrote.
