Ribadu Meets Security Chiefs Over Terror Threats, U.S. Military Remarks

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, is holding an emergency closed-door meeting with the Service Chiefs and heads of security and intelligence agencies at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Abuja.

Security sources say the meeting was convened following reports that U.S. President Donald Trump had directed American defense officials to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria.

According to sources, the session, which began this afternoon, is focused on reviewing the security situation in the country, recent terrorist attacks, and the activities of crude oil vandals threatening national assets. It also aims to assess the implications of Trump’s remarks accusing the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians from Islamist militants.

The NSA is expected to coordinate a unified national security response and evaluate intelligence reports regarding the potential fallout from the U.S. president’s statement.

Official details from the meeting are expected to be released by the Office of the National Security Adviser.
