Security operatives in Zamfara State have arrested a suspected arms trafficker in Gusau while he was trying to smuggle a large number of weapons to Dansadau.
According to source, the man was caught on Sunday during a secret operation after officers received reliable intelligence about the illegal arms movement through the state capital.
The weapons, including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), AK-47 rifles, and various ammunition, were reportedly hidden inside bags of dried fish to avoid detection.
Early findings suggest the weapons may have come from the Lake Chad region, a known route for smuggling arms used by terrorists and bandits in the North-West.
A security source confirmed, “The suspect was arrested while trying to transport the weapons to Dansadau, an area that has recently seen bandit attacks.”
