U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth says Washington is gearing up for possible military action in Nigeria if the government fails to stop the killing of Christians.
Hegseth issued the warning after President Donald Trump accused Nigerian authorities of “turning a blind eye” to deadly attacks targeting Christian communities.
In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump threatened to halt all U.S. aid to Nigeria and signaled readiness to send American forces into the country.
“If the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the USA will immediately stop all aid and may very well go into that disgraced country, guns-a-blazing,” Trump wrote.
“If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet… The Nigerian government better move fast!”
Hegseth said the Department of War has begun preliminary preparations in line with Trump’s directive.
