Champion Breweries Reports N1.7B Q2 Profit on Strong Beer, Malt Sales

Champion Breweries Plc has posted a remarkable second-quarter 2025 financial result with a record pre-tax profit of N1.7 billion, a significant increase from N465.4 million it posted in the same quarter of 2024.

This is a year-on-year profit growth of over 268 percent, a sign of a robust comeback of the company’s operation efficiency and sales push.

In the half-year, the brewery had a pre-tax half-year profit of N3.4 billion, a remarkable turnaround from a loss of N333 million during the comparable period last year. It was led largely by a massive surge in beer and malt sales, which recorded N7.4 billion in Q2 alone, 44.18 percent up on Q2 2024.

Total revenue for H1 2025 was N15.9 billion, a solid 66.92 percent year-on-year growth. Sales scale and the ability to contain costs have allowed the business to increase its gross profit to N3.8 billion, up 72.90 percent compared to the same period last year, even as the cost of goods sold rose to N3.5 billion.

Operationally, Champion Breweries also posted tighter control on administrative spending. While distribution and selling expenses rose to N1.4 billion, up 35.31 percent, and admin expenses rose marginally to N573.6 million, the firm managed to more than double its operating profit, which stood at N1.8 billion, from N639.5 million in Q2 2024.

Significantly, in the absence of foreign exchange losses during the quarter, net earnings were robust. Profit after tax was N1.3 billion, a year-on-year improvement of 198.17 percent.

The company’s balance sheet is also showing resilience. Total assets as at June 2025 were N25.9 billion, an increase of 21.57 percent over the corresponding period last year, and retained earnings were at N5.6 billion, an increase of 45.13 percent.

Champion Breweries’ stocks traded at N11.20 per share on July 24, 2025, 12 percent higher year-to-date—a reflection of growing investor confidence in the company’s return to profitability momentum.

In total, Champion Breweries is going through a period of sustained growth underpinned by growth in product demand, effective cost control, and strong finances. With beverage demand remaining stable and with no FX exposure, the company is set to continue its upward trend in the subsequent quarters.
