Airtel Africa started the new fiscal year on a solid note with a spectacular year-on-year increase of 269 percent in its pre-tax profit to $273 million in the 2025 first quarter.
This figure is 41 percent of the overall group pre-tax result in the entire 2024/2025 financial year and a good beginning for its 2025/2026 fiscal cycle.
Even more phenomenal is the after-tax profit of the company, which increased to $156 million, 408 percent more than last year’s at the same time period. Alone, the figure contributes to nearly half, approximately 48 percent, of its net profit over the whole fiscal year of the previous period.
Airtel Africa revenue increased by $1.415 billion for three months ended June 30, 2025. This is an increase of 24.9 percent in constant currency and 22.4 percent reported currency, supported by sustained currency market recovery in the markets it operates in.
The company credits its expansion to a string of strategic decisions, such as an overhaul of prices in its biggest market, Nigeria, and a strong performance in Francophone Africa. These markets were a principal driver of the revenue jump, re-affirming the ability of the company to adapt price models while further establishing and expanding its base customers.
Operatively, the total subscriber base of the company grew 9 percent, and its data customer base grew 17.4 percent, bringing the number of active data users to 75.6 million. The growth in user engagement has been credited to aggressive investments in digital infrastructure, improved service delivery, and customer-focused.
Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer Sunil Taldar characterized the performance as one that demonstrates excellent demand and good execution. He also noted the group’s continued commitment to digitization of operations and simplification of customer experience, which continue to drive sustainable growth in voice, data, and mobile money businesses.
While Airtel Africa surfs its own wave, the business is set to outperform expectations in 2025. And through innovation, customer satisfaction, and growth at the forefront of its agenda, it is quickly emerging as a leading player in Africa’s fast-changing telecom sector.
