Nollywood actress and activist Iyabo Ojo is facing serious threats to her life and safety following a fire incident at her office and a series of menacing messages aimed at her and her daughter, Priscilla Mkambala (née Ojo).
A typed letter, delivered to Ojo’s Lagos office on May 24, 2025, was made public this week by her daughter. The letter, signed by a group calling itself the Aggrieved Group, contained direct threats against the actress and warned that her daughter would not enjoy her marriage. It also stated that the family would be closely monitored for the next three months.
On Tuesday, July 8, about six weeks after the letter was received, a fire gutted Ojo’s office. No injuries were reported, but property loss was significant. According to Priscilla, this incident may have been a “Plan B” by those behind the earlier threats, following failed attempts to sabotage her wedding to Tanzanian musician Juma Jux.
Priscilla disclosed that the letter had arrived while her mother was in transit to her wedding in Tanzania and was only read after her return. The letter accused Ojo of causing undisclosed harm and promised retribution, saying that her daughter’s marriage would be made “useless.”
In response, Iyabo Ojo released a statement confirming that she had indeed received the threat. She said this was not the first time she had been targeted. In her words, the threats, along with recent attacks on her business, appear to be linked to her public advocacy especially her involvement in demanding justice for the late musician Mohbad and her political expressions during the last election cycle.
She explained that, following Mohbad’s death, she used her platform and her non-governmental organisation to push for an independent investigation. She also noted that she was recently invited by the Nigeria Police Force’s National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja over petitions related to her earlier public comments.
The actress added that she has received widespread public hostility, including online harassment, death threats, and videos inciting violence against her and her children. She stated that she has also seen coffins bearing her name and has faced calls for the destruction of her livelihood.
According to her, the police have been notified of the threats and the fire, and an investigation is currently underway to determine those responsible. She said she was willing to cooperate with authorities and continue to honor police invitations.
Iyabo Ojo is now focusing on her well-being and recovery following the fire incident. She thanked supporters who have stood by her and reiterated her belief that the attacks are a result of her social advocacy and political stance.
Police have not yet made any arrests, and the source of the fire has not been officially confirmed.
Investigations are ongoing.
