The All Progressives Congress (APC) has received over 100 decampees who joined the party from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party in Enugu State.
The decampees were received during the Expanded APC Stakeholders meeting in Enugu.
Addressing the defectors, the State Party chairman, Ugochukwu Agballah, stated that the party will no longer tolerate any form of indiscipline, warning that anyone caught engaging in anti-party activities will be suspended.
He attributed the failure of the party to win political positions in Enugu State to the activities of those he described as moles, saying efforts are in top gear to weed them out.
While hinting that the APC is fully prepared to take over the Enugu Lion Building in 2027, Agballah disclosed that the party has competent hands to take over from Governor Peter Mbah, whom he noted has not performed well.
He assured the defectors of equal treatment, adding that the party has witnessed significant growth with the influx of new members in the last year.
“We have instilled discipline in the party and that is what will work for the APC in Enugu State.
“You cannot be a member of the APC and be working for the PDP.
“It is either you are in APC fully or you are out.
“No matter how highly placed you are, we will never tolerate political indiscipline,” he warned.
Some of the decampees, including a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Peter Okonkwo, promised to make the APC popular and improve its electoral chances in the state in 2027.
According to them, they joined the APC to provide a formidable alternative platform for the people of the state.
“The leadership of this party can be likened to the NNPP of old. It exemplifies what we want when we talk about credible opposition.
“We are ready to deploy our capacities in our various localities, to ensure that APC wins massively in 2027,” they assured.
