Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, reaffirmed on Wednesday that his administration will not tolerate wastage of public funds or government properties.
The Governor represented by Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Engr. Michael Anoka, made this statement during the opening of a Three-Day retreat organized by the Delta State Direct Labour Agency in Asaba, in collaboration with De-Daf Associates, Lagos.
He said that the approval for the establishment of a Central Soil, Asphalt, and Concrete Testing Laboratory is in line with his administrationās policy of zero tolerance for poor-quality work and the wastage of public funds.
āThe Laboratory will enable quality assurance and quality control through testing of the soil, asphalt, and concrete used by contractors handling projects in the state,ā the Governor stated.
While acknowledging the history of poor maintenance culture among government agencies, Governor Oborevwori stressed that this issue, which has become a national problem, would not be tolerated in Delta under his leadership.
He commended the Board and management of the Delta State Direct Labour Agency for revitalizing the agency with renewed vigor and fresh ideas aimed at repositioning it for greater effectiveness.
āI am glad that the new leadership of the agency is coming up with fresh ideas to revive and reposition it for greater effectiveness.ā
āIt was in appreciation of your vision that I had no hesitation in approving the request for the establishment of a Central Equipment Maintenance and Repairs Workshop intended for the maintenance of the agency’s fleet of earth-moving equipment, heavy-duty trucks, and light operational vehiclesā.
Governor Oborevwori also reiterated his commitment to backlisting contractors who deliver substandard job and sanctioning staff members who collude with them to cut corners, depriving Deltans of full value for funds allocated to projects.
In appreciation of the Governorās reforms which has impacted the agency positively, the Board of Directors, management, and staff of the Delta State Direct Labour Agency presented the Governor with an award for repositioning the agency in line with the MORE agenda of his administration.
