Don’t Die in Silence, Business Expert Urges Victims of Violence Against Women

As the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women today, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Stine Industries Ltd, producers of Anambra Rice, Chief Akai Egwuonwu, has called on victims of violence against women always to speak up and not to die in silence.

November 25 annually is designated by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

According to the United Nations states, violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world.

The year’s theme for the celebration is “Every 11 Minutes, A Woman Is Killed, No Excuse. Unite To End Violence Against Women”.

In a chat with newsmen, Chief Egwuonwu, an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chieftain, expressed the urgent need for stakeholders to unite against gender-based violence as a means to address the social menace.

According to him, to unite against violence meted out to women would make it a thing of the past.

“This negative practice continues to appear in our society because of the indifference of some stakeholders. Many still think it does not affect them and as such stand aloof. Others are direct or indirect beneficiaries of the practices.

“But, we must realize that although it does not affect us today, tomorrow it may affect us,” he said.

The Business mogul urged victims always to speak up, as that would help expose the wrong while empowering survivors to dismantle the foundations of violence against women.

Chief Egwuonwu further advocated both financial and emotional investment critical in the quest for a violence-free society.

He clarified that the investment would involve dedicating time, energy, and resources to education, awareness, and support systems against the challenge.
