Sokoto Governor Warns Hisbah Against Abusing Power

The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has cautioned the leadership and officers of the Hisbah Board against using their authority to oppress or harass residents.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Hisbah Board on Thursday, the governor emphasized the importance of respecting citizens’ fundamental human rights while carrying out their duties.

Aliyu reminded the board to operate strictly within the law, clarifying that Hisbah is not a state police force but is only authorized to make arrests and hand over suspects to the appropriate security agencies.

He also stressed that Islam condemns social injustice and urged Hisbah personnel to avoid such practices at all costs.

“We aim to cleanse our society of social vices and promote moral values and religious principles, as Sokoto is predominantly a Muslim state,” the governor said.

Aliyu called for cooperation between Sokoto residents and the Hisbah Board to foster peace and stability in the state.
