Nigerian Army Awards Five-Year Scholarship to Borno state Indigene to Study Islamic Law

The Nigerian Army has awarded a prestigious five-year scholarship to Nana Fatima Bukar Bolori, a resident of Borno State to pursue a degree in Islamic Law at the University of Maiduguri.

The scholarship, known as the 2024 Chief of Army Staff Special Scholarship, is part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to foster stability, development, and community upliftment through education.

The award presentation took place at the Theatre Command Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, on Thursday with Major General Wahidi Shaibu, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, personally presenting the scholarship cheque to Bolori.

The Theatre Commander highlighted that this scholarship initiative spans across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with the aim of encouraging and empowering young Nigerians from diverse backgrounds to further their education and become agents of positive change in their communities.

During his remarks at the event, Major General Shaibu emphasized that the scholarship scheme is one of the Nigerian Army’s Non-Kinetic programs, which are designed to engage communities constructively, especially in areas affected by conflict.

Through these initiatives, the Army seeks to strengthen ties with local communities and build mutual trust, particularly among young people who represent the country’s future.

“The Nigerian Army’s Department of Civil-Military Relations has several programs similar to this scholarship initiative, aimed at encouraging the youth in our country,” General Shaibu said.

“This scholarship program is not only about education; it is also a way to support our various operations across the nation by winning the hearts and minds of citizens, especially in the areas where we operate. The Chief of Army Staff Special Scholarship Scheme is targeted towards individuals who have been impacted by the conflict, offering them the opportunity to further their education and emerge as better, more productive citizens.”

The scholarship will provide financial support of N500,000 per academic year for five years, covering Bolori’s tuition and other educational expenses.

This substantial support will enable her to focus on her studies without the burden of financial constraints.

Expressing her gratitude, Miss Bolori shared her appreciation for the Nigerian Army’s generosity and commitment to education.

She stated that her dream of becoming a lawyer would now be achievable, thanks to the scholarship, and promised to make the best use of the opportunity.

This scholarship program exemplifies the Nigerian Army’s commitment to non-combative strategies for national development, promoting peace through education, and providing young Nigerians with opportunities that empower them to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
