Shooting Range Practice: Minna Police Advise Public Not to Panic

—

The Niger State Police Command has officially informed the public, other security agencies, and key stakeholders about an upcoming shooting range practice scheduled for three dates in November: the 1st, 8th and 15th, 2024. This exercise will be conducted between 6:00 a.m and 4:00 p.m each day.
The designated location for the training is behind the Nigerian Air Force Base in Maikunkele, situated on the outskirts of Minna, the capital city of Niger State.
This announcement was made through a press release issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Wasiu Abiodun, in Minna.
The press statement serves to notify residents and the general public of the planned exercise and to provide assurance that the sounds of gunfire expected on these dates should not be cause for alarm.
According to the Police Command, the purpose of the practice is to enhance operational readiness and ensure officers are well-trained in handling weapons.
SP Wasiu Abiodun emphasized that the exercise is strictly a routine practice intended for professional training and improvement in response tactics.
He also urged residents, including those living close to the training area, to maintain calm and not to panic if they hear gunshots during the stated hours on these specified dates.
The notice also extends to other security agencies to prevent unnecessary alarm within their ranks and to ensure a coordinated understanding across all security bodies in the area.
In addition, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, expressed his appreciation for the continued cooperation and understanding from the public and other security agencies.
He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to maintaining a proactive and responsive approach to public service and security within the state.
