Real Madrid Expresses Solidarity with Valencia Flood Victims as Death Toll Rises to Over 60

Before their training session at Real Madrid City, the players and coaching staff observed a minute of silence to honour those who lost their lives in the recent storm that devastated several regions of Spain, particularly Valencia.

The team is scheduled to travel to Valencia this weekend for their Matchday 12 La Liga fixture, though severe weather conditions could affect travel plans.

In an official statement, the club expressed its condolences and support for the victims and their families:

“The club’s president and Board of Directors extend their deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives due to the storm that has severely impacted many areas of our country, especially in the provinces of Valencia and Albacete. Real Madrid stands in solidarity with all those affected by this catastrophe, offering our full support and sympathy.”

The floods, which have claimed at least 62 lives, were triggered by torrential rains across southern and eastern Spain, according to Al Jazeera. Emergency services are continuing search and rescue efforts, with authorities advising citizens to avoid travel. This may complicate Real Madrid’s journey to Valencia for the weekend fixture.

Carlos Mazón, the regional leader of Valencia, addressed the challenges faced by emergency teams during a news conference:

“If [emergency services] have not arrived, it’s not for lack of effort, but because access is impossible,” Mazón emphasized that some areas remain isolated and inaccessible due to the severe flooding.
