Corps Marshal Holds In-Depth Meeting with Committee on Presidential Report for Jigawa Fuel Tanker Crash

The Corps Marshal convened a close and detailed meeting with the Committee, led by Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) Kayode Olagunju, mni (Rtd), to address the findings and recommendations of the Presidential report concerning the tragic fuel tanker crash and explosion that occurred in Jigawa on October 15, 2024.

The incident, which claimed numerous lives and caused extensive property damage, has prompted a national call for reform in road safety, especially in the transportation of hazardous materials like fuel.

The Presidential report, a document aiming to provide concrete steps towards safer road practices, served as the foundation of the meeting’s discussions.

The Committee’s objective is to create effective strategies for the enforcement of safety measures, with particular attention to the transportation of heavy and potentially hazardous goods.

The Corps Marshal acknowledged the significance of the report, emphasizing that its recommendations could be instrumental in preventing similar tragedies in the future.

He stressed the need for enhanced regulations, stricter enforcement measures, and more comprehensive safety training for drivers and operators of haulage vehicles.

By prioritizing these improvements, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) aims to reduce the frequency of such accidents and protect lives and property on Nigerian roads.

The Committee, chaired by DCM Olagunju, has been tasked with conducting an in-depth review of the report’s recommendations and developing an implementation plan that could help transform haulage transportation standards across the country.
