No Proof Bobrisky Slept Outside Prison During Jail Term, Says Panel

—

An investigative panel has confirmed that there is no evidence suggesting that popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, spent any nights outside prison during his six-month sentence.

The Executive Director of the Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), Uju Agomoh, revealed this on Monday while presenting the first phase of the panel’s report at the Ministry of Interior.

Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison on April 12, 2024, for naira mutilation and was released on August 5, 2024.

However, activist VeryDarkMan had accused Bobrisky of not actually serving his time in Kirikiri prison. Instead, he claimed Bobrisky stayed in a lodge, allegedly due to the influence of a powerful godfather.

The activist even released an audio clip where Bobrisky supposedly admitted to bribing officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million to drop money laundering charges.

In response to these allegations, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ordered an investigation.

On September 30, he established a panel, chaired by Magdalena Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, to look into the corruption claims and other violations involving the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Despite the accusations, Agomoh said that so far, the panel found no evidence to support claims that Bobrisky slept outside the prison during his sentence, which ran from April 12 to August 5, 2024, with the usual sentence reduction for good behavior.
