The Federal Government is set to modernise Nigeria’s immigration procedures with the introduction of e-gate technology, aimed at improving border management.

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced this initiative during a recent presentation regarding an integrated border management system for the Nigeria Immigration Service.

E-gate technology will serve as an automated border control solution, facilitating smoother entry and exit for travellers at immigration points.

This new system is designed to streamline vetting processes, thereby decreasing wait times for passengers entering the country.

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader goals of enhancing national security and promoting legitimate travel.

Tunji-Ojo noted that the government is committed to creating a secure and efficient environment for both citizens and visitors, which in turn supports Nigeria’s economic and social development.

As the implementation of this technology progresses, the administration under President Bola Tinubu aims to remain proactive in addressing emerging border management challenges, ensuring the immigration service is staffed by well-trained and motivated personnel.
