CAF Launches Investigation into Super Eagles’ Ordeal in Libya

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation into the ill-treatment the Super Eagles of Nigeria encountered after being abandoned at a Libyan airport for hours in a plan to honour their 2025 AFCON qualifiers match four.

In a statement, the Libyan Football Federation claimed that the pilot had flown the Super Eagles to the wrong destination distancing themselves from the controversies and aftermath.

“The Confederation of African Football has been in contact with Nigerian and Libyan authorities after being informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (Super Eagles) and its technical crew were stranded under distressing conditions for several hours at an airport, allegedly due to instructions from the Libyan authorities.”

“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated CAF statutes and regulations.”

As previously reported by The News Chronicle, the Super Eagles captain ensured that all hands were on deck, calling on the Nigerian government, CAF, and other associations to take swift action regarding their unpleasant situation.

After waiting for hours without proper treatment from the Libyan FA, the team resolved to boycott Matchday Four of the 2025 qualifiers, which was originally scheduled to take place today as the reverse fixture of the match previously held in Uyo, Nigeria, where the Super Eagles won 1-0.

The team captain confirmed their arrival in Kano last night, as reported by The News Chronicle. From Kano, they will proceed to Abuja before finally heading to Lagos.
