Nigerian Stocks Rise By 0.47% As Trading Volume Soars By 20%

The All-Share Index (ASI) gained 0.47%, or 456.12 points, to close at 97,520.54 on October 4, 2024, marking a good close for the Nigerian stock market.

A 20% rise in market activity—with the trading volume reaching 320 million shares—supported this uptick.

Friday saw strong SEPLAT advances, with UBA leading in trade volume. With its rise, SEPLAT emerged as the day’s best performer, with ABCTRANS coming in second with a 9.92% gain.

In the meantime, the total number of shares moved increased to 320 million, a notable increase over the 268 million shares exchanged in the previous session.

With a 10.00% increase, SEPLAT outperformed all others, and ABCTRANS was not far behind with a 9.92% gain.

Conversely, ETERNA saw the biggest loss, plunging 10.00%, while PZ and REGALINS also saw significant drops, coming in at 9.49% and 8.89%, respectively.

Volume Of Trading

With 320 million shares moving hands—a 20% increase over the 268 million shares traded the day before—the market saw increased trading activity.

With 36.73 million shares traded, UBA was first in the group, followed by STERLINGNG with 23.56 million shares.

WAPCO (16.67 million shares), REGALINS (13.60 million shares), and ELLAHLAKES (23.30 million shares) were among the other high-volume equities.

Exchange Value

In terms of trading value, UBA was likewise in the lead with N991.43 million in trades.

OANDO traded shares for N746.38 million in close succession. ZENITHBANK reported N484.32 million in value, WAPCO contributed N616.97 million, and SEPLAT provided N708.54 million.

FUGAZ and SWOOT Performance

Price fluctuations for AIRTEL, BUA CEMENT, BUA FOODS, GEREGU POWER, MTNN, and DANGOTE CEMENT among the SWOOTs were essentially unchanged.

SEPLAT, however, outpaced the group with a 10% increase.

Within the FUGAZ category (high-grade banking stocks), FBNH, UBA, and GTCO all showed relatively small increases of 1.21%, 1.30%, and 0.82%, in that order.

Zenith Bank experienced a minor decline of 0.53%, while Access Bank was unchanged.

Market Prognosis

In the upcoming weeks, it is anticipated that the ASI will surpass the 99,000-point mark as the index recovers from its most recent decline.

In the coming week, it is anticipated that the banking, oil & gas, and insurance sectors will once again push this momentum forward.
