EFCC Condemns Misuse of Its Operational Gear in Skit Production

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to skit makers and social media influencers, condemning the unauthorized use of its operational gear for comedic purposes.
This warning comes after an old skit, titled “EFCC and Army Wahala”, resurfaced on social media, reigniting concerns over the misrepresentation of the Commission’s operatives.
The video, which presents a caricature of EFCC’s operational conduct, portrays agents terrorizing supposed suspects in a manner the Commission describes as “shameful” and “embarrassing.” According to the EFCC, this depiction is not only a gross mischaracterization but also a deliberate attempt to tarnish its image and mislead the public.
“The operatives of the EFCC are not bullies. They are trained law enforcement officers, well-versed in modern techniques, civility, and respect for public rights, including those of suspects under investigation,” the statement emphasized.
In response to the video’s resurgence, the EFCC reiterated its prior warnings to skit makers, urging them to desist from using the Commission’s official gear without authorization. It emphasized that such actions not only distort the public perception of its work but also undermine its credibility.
The EFCC called on content creators to respect the legal and professional boundaries when producing entertainment material, reminding them that portraying law enforcement agencies in a misleading light has consequences that could affect the integrity of public institutions.
