Super Eagles Midfielder Frank Onyeka Joins Augsburg on Loan from Brentford

Brentford FC has confirmed that its player, Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka, has joined the German side Augsburg on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance.

Onyeka joined the Bees from Midtjylland in July 2021, becoming the club’s first signing of this era in the Premier League. He went on to make 78 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Thomas Frank, the head coach of Brentford, said Onyeka’s wish to play week in, week out may have been made possible following the loan move:

“Frank has been an important player during our last three seasons in the Premier League,” said head coach Thomas Frank. “He has been a big part of our success, and I can’t praise him enough for that in every aspect. Frank wants to play week in, week out as a starter; this is a good opportunity for him to do that. We have a lot of young midfielders who also need minutes, so this is a good loan for Frank and the club.”

During the positive 2023/24 season, in which he scored his first goal for the club against Sheffield United in April 2024, Onyeka departed for AFCON and returned to the club with a runners-up medal after Nigeria was beaten 2-1 by Ivory Coast in the final.
