As the European summer transfer window draws to a close, Napoli is taking every step to finalize the deal for wantaway Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.
The Azzurri have reached an agreement with Al Ahli for the 26-year-old’s signature.
Earlier in the summer transfer window, Osimhen was strongly linked to PSG, but the deal fell through. Shortly afterward, Chelsea expressed interest in taking the African Footballer of the Year on loan, but issues surrounding the buyout clause and wages hindered the deal from being finalized.
A few days ago, Chelsea renewed their interest in Osimhen, proposing a loan deal with an option to buy. However, they now face competition from Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, who have agreed on a one-year deal with Napoli worth between €70 million and €80 million in total. Al Ahli has also arranged for Osimhen’s medicals in the coming days, though the transfer will depend on whether Osimhen is willing to move outside Europe.
Last week, Osimhen’s agent stated that the striker’s priority was to remain in Europe, downplaying any transfer links to Saudi Arabia. However, the situation appears to be evolving.
According to Fabrizio, Osimhen has requested a release clause in his contract, and Al Ahli has included one for less than €100 million.
Reports also suggest that Brentford forward Ivan Toney has agreed to join Al Ahli in a deal worth €42 million. Toney has settled on personal terms for the move, but this will not affect Osimhen’s potential transfer.
