Federal University Birnin Kebbi Governing Council Approves Promotions of Professors and Senior Academic Staff

The Governing Council of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK), under the leadership of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, His Excellency Ali Abubakar Jatau, has announced the promotion of several academic staff members to higher ranks within the institution.

The announcement was made following the 27th meeting of the Council, held on Monday, August 12, 2024.

During this meeting, the Council carefully considered the recommendations put forward by External Assessors and the Senior Staff Appointment and Promotion Committee (SSAPC).

After thorough deliberations, the Council approved the promotion of four academic staff members to the prestigious rank of Professor and two others to the rank of Associate Professor, also known as Reader.

In a statement released on Friday 16 August, 2024, by the University’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Jamilu Magaji, the newly promoted Professors were identified as Dr. Abdullahi Garba Kangiwa (Criminology), Dr. Kangiwa currently serves as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences.

His promotion to the rank of Professor is a testament to his significant contributions to the field of Criminology.

Dr. Acheoah John Emike (Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis), Dr. Emike, who recently completed his tenure as the Head of the European Languages Department, has been recognized for his scholarly work in Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis.

Dr. Zuni Aminu (Social Geomorphology and Environmental Management), Dr. Aminu is the Deputy Director of General Studies and a former Head of the Geography Department.

His promotion reflects his expertise and leadership in Social Geomorphology and Environmental Management.

Dr. Murano Muniru O. (Applied Linguistics), Dr. Muniru, the pioneer Head of the European Languages Department, has been elevated to the rank of Professor in recognition of his contributions to the field of Applied Linguistics.

In addition to the Professorial promotions, the Council also approved the promotion of two academic staff members to the rank of Associate Professor (Reader):

Dr. Umar Faruk Mohammed (Chemistry Department), Dr. Mohammed’s promotion is a recognition of his academic accomplishments and contributions to the Chemistry Department.

Dr. Ologe Oluwatoyin (Department of Applied Geophysics), Dr. Oluwatoyin has been promoted to Associate Professor, reflecting his expertise and contributions to the field of Applied Geophysics.

Furthermore, the Council approved the promotion of nine academic staff members to the rank of Senior Lecturer.

In addition, 17 senior non-teaching staff members have been promoted to various ranks, including Deputy Registrar, Deputy Director, and Principal Assistant Registrar.

According to the statement by Jamilu Magaji, the promotions for Professors and Associate Professors are retroactively effective from January 2023, while the promotions for senior non-teaching staff take effect from January 2024.

The Governing Council expressed its confidence in the newly promoted staff members and encouraged them to continue delivering high-quality services to the University, Nigeria, and humanity at large.

This round of promotions is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the academic and administrative capabilities of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi.
