The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested Ibrahim Mohamed Liman for the kidnapping and murder of an 8-year-old boy, Kamal Aliyu, in the Runjin Gani community, Toro Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, revealed in a statement on Thursday, August 15, that Ibrahim conspired with another individual to abduct Kamal by tricking him into delivering a message to his father, Alhaji Ali Runji.
After luring the child, the suspects took him to a nearby bush, where they tragically ended his life and buried him in a shallow grave.
During interrogation, Ibrahim admitted that they had initially demanded a ransom of 200,000 Naira from Kamal’s father. However, they were unable to collect the money because of the presence of security operatives near the drop-off location.
The case was reported on August 4, 2024, when Kamal was declared missing. In response, the Division Police Officer (DPO) of the Toro Police Division launched a thorough search and rescue mission.
Following credible intelligence and a tip-off, Ibrahim Mohamed Liman, a 23-year-old resident of the same community and a close neighbor to the victim’s family, was apprehended on August 15, 2024.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The command also expressed its condolences to the family of the victim, promising that all individuals involved in this tragic crime will be brought to justice.
