NIMC Urges Parents to Enroll Their Children for NIN

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has called on parents and guardians to ensure their children are enrolled for the National Identification Number (NIN).

This initiative is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to enhance the national identification system and improve data accuracy for all Nigerian citizens.

The NIMC was established in 2007 to manage the National Identity Database and provide a unique identity to every Nigerian.

The NIN became mandatory in 2021 following a directive from the Federal Government, aiming to streamline various governmental processes, reduce identity theft, and improve national security.

In a tweet, the NIMC emphasized the importance of parents and guardians enrolling their children for the National Identification Number (NIN).

The tweet read:

“As a parent or guardian, it is mandatory for you to enroll your child for the NIN. This is because the system links your NIN with that of your child for authenticity. This linkage remains until your child attains the age of 16. Get enrolled today!”
