Iwuanyanwu Passes on, Becomes Second Consecutive Ohaneze Ndigbo President General to Die in Office

The President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, passed on after a brief illness on Thursday.

Chief Iwuanyanwu before his death was president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.

A statement signed by his son, Jide Iwuanyanwu, while confirming the death, said the late Ohaneze Ndigbo leader died on Thursday in Abuja at the age of 82 years.

The statement said details of burial rites for the late Iwuanyanwu who hails from Umuohii Atta in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, will be announced later by the family after due consultations.

It further said the late Chief Iwuanyanwu is survived by his wife Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, many children, and grandchildren including Dr Mrs Nwadiuto Iheakanwa – Managing Director, Champion Group of Newspapers.

Iwuanyanwu has now become the second consecutive Ohaneze Ndigbo President General to die in office after his predecessor, George Obiozor, died in 2022.

The late Chief Iwuanyanwu was a prominent Nigerian businessman, politician, and philanthropist known for his significant contributions to various sectors, particularly in the Igbo community and beyond.

He has been active in multiple business ventures, including real estate, manufacturing, and hospitality.

In addition to his business accomplishments, Chief Iwuanyanwu has been involved in politics and has held various leadership positions within political parties.
