Meta Lifts Restrictions on Donald Trump’s Social Media Accounts

Meta, parent company of Facebook and Instagram has decided to lift the restrictions on Donald Trump’s social media accounts.

These restrictions were put in place after the US Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
Meta explained that this decision is to support political expression, especially from those running for president.
They believe it is important for Americans to hear from presidential nominees on an equal basis.
Trump’s accounts were suspended indefinitely after he praised the violence during the Capitol attack.
The accounts were reinstated in February 2023 with potential penalties for future breaches, which are now lifted.
US presidential candidates must still follow the same Community Standards as other users, including policies against hate speech and incitement to violence.
Despite the lifted restrictions on Facebook and Instagram, Trump primarily uses his own platform, Truth Social.
His Facebook profile, with 34 million followers, mirrors content from Truth Social and includes campaign materials.
Trump is the first former US president to be convicted of a crime. He was also previously banned from Twitter and YouTube, but those restrictions were lifted last year.
