MNJTF Rescues Women and Children as 69 Boko Haram Terrorists Surrender

—

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has rescued several women and children and facilitated the surrender of Boko Haram terrorists and their families during the first week of July.

This was revealed by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the spokesman for the MNJTF, in a press release issued on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

According to the press release, a total of 56 Boko Haram terrorists, including women and children, surrendered to Cameroonian and Nigerian forces operating in Sector 1, Cameroon, on July 6.

Among those who surrendered was Tijjani Muhammad, a 24-year-old terrorist who turned himself in to the troops in Sector 4, Niger Republic, on July 1. Muhammad surrendered with a rifle, magazines, and ammunition.

The rescued women and children, who are family members of the surrendered terrorists, were handed over to the troops of Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai, in the Gamboru and Banki regions for further action.

The operation that led to these surrenders and rescues, known as Operation Lake Sanity 2, has been hailed as a significant success in the ongoing efforts to combat Boko Haram in the region.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi emphasized the importance of these surrenders and rescues in the broader fight against terrorism, highlighting the MNJTF’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in the affected areas.

The rescued individuals will undergo necessary debriefing and rehabilitation processes to ensure their safety and integration back into society.

The MNJTF, comprising forces from multiple nations, continues to make strides in its mission to eliminate the threat posed by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the Lake Chad Basin region.
