JAMB Roots Out 3,000 Fake Graduates

—

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has uncovered 3,000 Nigerian fake graduates.

According to the JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, who announced this in a meeting with the delegation of the Committee of Pro Chancellors of State Universities in Nigeria, COPSUN, in Abuja, said some ‘graduates’ had never entered the four walls of a university owing to the endemic corruption in the system but the board had documented over 3,000 of such cases.

In the details of the meeting published in the board’s bulletin, Oloyede also condemned the illegal admissions practice in some universities across the country.

“Illegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation”.

It was gathered that the examination body had earlier warned candidates to desist from accepting admissions offered without full academic participation.

It would be recalled that the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education had in December 2023 directed JAMB to present the list of tertiary institutions that had conducted irregular admissions.
