Delta PDP, APC Trade Words Ahead of Local Government Polls

—

The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed recent allegations from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as baseless and indicative of the opposition’s “emotional instability.”

The accusations in question involve claims that the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) has been recruiting and training PDP members as ad hoc staff for the upcoming July 13th local government elections.

In a strongly worded statement, the PDP described the APC’s allegations as a diversionary tactic from a party unable to mount a credible campaign. The PDP argued that these claims were part of a long-standing pattern of unsubstantiated accusations aimed at discrediting the electoral process.

The PDP’s response follows an online report accusing DSIEC of bias and compromising the integrity of the forthcoming elections by allegedly employing PDP members as ad hoc staff. The PDP criticized the report as unprofessional and lacking in credible evidence, asserting that it was a deliberate attempt to undermine public confidence in the electoral commission.

Engr. Dan Ossai, the State Secretary of the PDP, emphasized the party’s readiness and active participation in the electoral process. He highlighted that the PDP is deeply rooted in Delta State and is engaged in extensive campaigning across all 25 local government areas.

Ossai pointed out that the APC, which he described as disorganized and lacking coherent leadership, has not been visible in the election preparations. He dismissed the APC’s claims as a desperate move by a party that has failed to mobilize support and mount an effective campaign.

The PDP called on the APC and the media outlet that published the report to provide incontrovertible proof of their allegations. They also noted the partisan nature of the report, which failed to include perspectives from PDP officials, thereby undermining its credibility.

Reiterating its commitment to a fair electoral process, the PDP expressed confidence in DSIEC’s ability to conduct credible elections. The party urged Deltans to remain vigilant against what it described as the APC’s attempts to sow doubt and confusion ahead of the polls.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the PDP’s position as the dominant political force in Delta State, pledging continued cooperation with DSIEC to ensure transparent and credible local government elections.
