Former Cameroonian Player Landry Nguemo Dies in Accident

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has confirmed the death of its former player, Landry Nguemo, who was killed in a traffic accident on Thursday.

The midfielder, who died at 38, played for Nancy, Bordeaux, and Saint-Étienne in France and for the Scottish side Celtic on loan. Nguemo played for the Cameroon national team from 2006 to 2016 and was part of the squad that lost the 2008 AFCON to Egypt.

He also played for two Turkish clubs and Kongsvinger in Norway before his retirement from active football.

In 2020, he returned to Nancy as a youth coach, where he was before his sudden demise.

Saint-Étienne and Celtic, where the 38-year-old played, have commemorated with the family of the deceased and the Cameroonian Federation.

Celtic wrote on their official Facebook page:

“Everyone at Celtic Football Club is shocked and saddened at the news of Landry N’Guemo’s passing at the young age of 38.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Landry’s family and friends at this sad time.”

Saint-Étienne, on their Facebook page, shared their condolences message:

“Landry Nguemo has left us. Far too soon, far too brutal.

The ACE cries one of its own. To all his relatives, we send our deepest condolences.”
