Former Chelsea Defender Ryan Bertrand Retires from Football at 34

Former Chelsea and England international Ryan Bertrand has announced his retirement from football at 34.
The left-back made the revelation during a live broadcast on Sky Sports.
I will be retiring from football,” he said.
It’s been a little while, but I get asked a lot of questions—’When are you coming back, what are you doing?’
“So, just to make that official, I am retiring and very much looking forward to the next steps.”
Ryan began his senior career with Chelsea Football Club, having represented the club’s academy. He made 57 appearances with the senior team, including his debut game in the UEFA Champions League final in 2012.
He experienced many loan spells before and after his senior debut with Chelsea, before securing a permanent move to Southampton in 2015, where he made most of his appearances (250 in all competitions) and stayed until 2021.
He moved to Leicester City the same year and was released in 2023 when the Foxes suffered relegation.
Bertrand earned 19 senior England caps and was part of Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 team.
