Will Smith Shares Key to Healthier Relationships

American actor Will Smith recently shared a profound insight into how realizing he isn’t responsible for others’ happiness has transformed his relationships.

He explained that he used to struggle deeply in his relationships until he grasped the crucial idea that “it’s impossible to make a person happy.”

In an interview with Complex, alongside his ‘Bad Boys: Ride Or Die’ co-star Martin Lawrence, Smith offered a valuable piece of advice.

“The best relationship advice I’ve received is that it’s impossible to make someone happy. Don’t even try. And don’t expect others to make you happy either,” he said.

Smith emphasized the importance of personal responsibility for one’s own happiness. “You need to find and nurture your own happiness, and they need to do the same. Then, you can share the happiness you each have, instead of trying to extract happiness from one another. That realization was transformative for me.

“When I retired from trying to make people happy, all my relationships improved.”

Smith’s insight highlights a key aspect of healthy relationships. By focusing on cultivating his own joy and allowing others to do the same, he found that his connections with others became stronger and more fulfilling.
