The election for the village head of Pakka, under the Mubi Emirate Council, turned violent as supporters of various candidates clashed, the turmoil resulted in the brutal assault of a journalist covering the event, on Thursday.
Abdulganiyu Nuhu Pakka, a reporter with the Adamawa State Broadcast Corporation (ABC), became a victim of the violence.
He was attacked at the palace of the Mubi Emirate Council during the election proceedings.
Nuhu was on duty, reporting on the election activities, when a group of thugs suspected to be loyal to one of the candidates, Aminu Muhammadu Pakka, attacked him. The thugs were identified as Yahya Ahmadu (Konsi), Adamu Rufa’u (Mome), and others.
The incident occurred shortly after the electoral committee removed the names of five out of twelve voters, who were officially recognized as resident leaders of Pakka village by the Emirate Council.
These voters had proper identification and approval letters but were excluded from the voting process.
Journalist Abdulganiyu was attempting to interview the suspended and removed resident leaders, who were legitimate voters, to uncover the truth behind their disqualification.
However, before he could complete his investigation, a group of thugs assaulted him, forcing him to cease his interviews and leaving him severely beaten.
The violent episode highlights the desperate measures some supporters are willing to take to secure the vacant position of village head, raising concerns about the integrity and safety of the electoral process under the Mubi Emirate Council.
