Music Legend Stevie Wonder Granted Ghana Citizenship (Video)

American music legend Stevie Wonder has been granted Ghanaian citizenship, taking the Oath of Allegiance and receiving his Certificate of Citizenship at a ceremony in Ghana’s Jubilee House before President Akufo-Addo.

Though born in Michigan, Wonder had been a longtime admirer of the West African country and announced three years ago his desire to be a citizen.

Known for hits like “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” Stevie Wonder has influenced many music genres and won 25 Grammy Awards with 74 nominations since 1961.

Stevie Wonder’s citizenship marks a positive milestone for Ghana’s 2019 ‘Year of Return’ initiative, which encourages the African diaspora to invest, settle, and visit the country.
