NNPC and NOS aim for 40,000bpd after hitting first oil in OML13

—

The commencement of oil production at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 13 in Akwa Ibom State has been successfully announced by both Natural Oilfield Services Ltd (NOSL), a subsidiary of Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Ltd (SEEPCO), and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Exploration and Production Limited (NNPC E&P Ltd), an upstream subsidiary of NNPC.

In a statement released on Sunday and signed by Chief Corporate Communications Officer Olufemi Soneye, NNPC revealed that by May 27, 2024, production—which started on May 6, 2024, at 6,000 barrels of oil per day—is anticipated to increase to 40,000 barrels per day.

“The first oil flow from OML 13 marks a historic turning point in the history of NNPC E&P Ltd and NOSL’s cooperation, demonstrating their commitment to fostering growth and development in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, which continues to be a crucial part of the country’s economy.”

“The accomplishment represents a new era of economic empowerment and development opportunities for the host communities, as well as the culmination of rigorous planning and execution by the teams involved,” he said.

Soneye clarified that the first oil from OML 13 is significant for Nigeria since it helps the nation meet its energy demands domestically and spurs economic growth by boosting oil production capability.

“Operating in a manner that is safe, environmentally responsible, and beneficial to the local communities is another commitment made by the NNPC E&P Ltd and NOSL partnership,” he stated.
