American hip-hop icon Fat Joe recently claimed that some musicians owe their success to their support from the LGBT community.
According to the veteran rapper, artists like Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé thrive in the music scene because of their strong following within the gay community.
In a recent interview with Livebitez, Fat Joe expressed concern about the increasing influence of LGBT culture in music, especially in hip-hop.
He noted, “Today, you see men who may not identify as gay, but they embrace certain styles like painting their nails or carrying Birkenbags.
“It seems like a new trend or style – painting nails, wearing dresses, and so on. And then you have someone like Young Thug wearing skirts. It’s like jumping on a bandwagon to get attention and boost record sales.
“Traditionally, the artists who have sold the most have often been those who resonate with the LGBT community. Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé are prime examples.”
Fat Joe suggested that some artists feel pressured to embrace certain styles or behaviors to cater to their LGBT fanbase.
