The Kano State Police Department announced on Friday that they have arrested 120 individuals suspected of being involved in thuggery and related crimes throughout March.
The announcement was made by CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the State Commissioner of Police, who stated that the arrests were part of the department’s broader strategy to maintain law and order in the state.
He said “A total of 120 Suspects were Arrested in just one month (1st-31st March). We arrested Fifty-five (55) Suspected Thugs (Yan-Daba), Twenty (20) Suspected Thieves, Fifteen (15) Armed Robbery Suspects, Ten (10) Suspected Drug Dealers and Four (4) Kidnapping Suspects among others.”
This recent development highlights the department’s ongoing efforts to combat these criminal activities.
In a detailed statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, it was revealed that out of the 120 arrests, 55 suspects were directly linked to thuggery.
“We succeeded in rescuing three (3) kidnapping victims and recovery of Fifteen (15) Rounds of AK-47 Live Ammunition, Twelve (12) Rounds of 7.62mm Live Ammunition, Twenty-four (24) Locally Made Dane Guns, Twenty-eight (28) Knives, Ten (10) Cutlasses and Seven (7) Sharp Irons (Dan-bida), Three (3) Parcels and Fifty-six (56) wraps of Dried Leaves Suspected to be Indian Hemp among others.”
This indicates a concerted effort by law enforcement to address the resurgence of thuggery, particularly in identified hotspots within the state, notably the Metropolis.
