Troops Unearth 102 Dugout Wells and Recover N1 billion in Oil Theft

During an extensive search in the Niger Delta region, troops have discovered an astounding 102 dugout wells that are allegedly used for oil theft.

This information was disclosed on Thursday during a press conference in Abuja given by Director of Defence Media Operations Edward Buba.

In the course of the operation, soldiers in the Niger Delta region found and demolished eight vehicles, forty-one boats, thirty-six storage tanks, and 102 dugout pits. They also denied stealing an estimated N1,050,715,260.

They also took possession of six pumping machines, 39 cooking ovens, and dismantled 61 illicit refining installations.

Among the goods found were 1,500 litres of dual-purpose kerosene (DPK), 171,060 litres of unlawfully refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil) and 944,700 litres of stolen crude oil.

They also succeeded in freeing 244 hostages who had been abducted.

In addition, the troops found 2,756 different types of ammunition and 223 different types of firearms, demonstrating their dedication to combating criminal activity in the area.

As seen by the most recent hostage rescues in the states of Sokoto and Kaduna, the military forces are still committed to maintaining effective operational engagements. These actions show the armed forces’ unwavering commitment to shielding civilians from harm and acts of terror. They are carried out in cooperation with local authorities and government agencies.

But the recent event in Delta State, which tragically claimed the lives of seventeen troops, is a sobering reminder of the dangers military personnel confront while performing their duties. In spite of this, as a gesture of goodwill, the military forces nevertheless interact with the community and carry out volunteer work.

The military asks civilians to assist in locating and detaining wanted persons who are engaged in illegal activity. Soldiers promise to hold out until all of the guilty are held accountable, highlighting the significance of group accountability in preserving peace and security.

According to Buba, despite persistent difficulties, the military persisted in its efforts to eradicate the threats posed by lawbreakers and guarantee public safety.

To help in the battle against crime and terrorism, citizens are advised to remain watchful and report any suspicious activities,” he said.
