Fire Engulfs Shops in Idumota Market, Lagos

—

In the early hours of Wednesday, a devastating fire tore through the Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo section of Idumota Market in Lagos State, leaving a trail of destruction.

Reports indicate that goods worth millions of Naira were consumed by the inferno, which ravaged several shops in the area.

The blaze affected three buildings including two two-storey structures and one three-storey building. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, alongside other emergency service providers, promptly mobilized to the scene upon receiving the distress call at 07:41 hours.

Firefighting efforts were immediately initiated upon arrival at 07:58 hours, with resources deployed from nearby fire stations at Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa.

Despite the valiant efforts of the responders, the cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigations continue.

Margaret Adeseye, the Fire Service boss, issued a statement urging residents to cooperate with emergency personnel and to steer clear of the affected area for their safety. Fortunately, there have been no confirmed casualties reported thus far.
