Senate has approved the NYSC Trust Fund Bill

The Senate recently approved a new law called the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Trust Fund Bill.

This law aims to create a steady source of money for the NYSC. The money will be used for various things like teaching skills to Corps members, training them, and helping them start businesses. It will also be used to train NYSC staff and improve NYSC camps and facilities.

Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, who is in charge of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports and represents Ekiti South, sponsored the bill.

He explained during the discussions that this bill is very important. He promised that it would help graduates learn new skills through programs like Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED).

Adaramodu mentioned that the NYSC Trust Fund Bill is meant to support the growth of Corps members and make their lives better.

He pointed out that the NYSC has been around for 51 years since it started in May 1973. However, this is the first time anyone has tried to update the law that created the NYSC to make it better for Nigerians.

He emphasized that the NYSC has not only taught and empowered Corps members but also helped them become more patriotic and nationalistic.

The idea to create the National Youth Service Trust Fund came from various stakeholders, including the governments of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Civil Society Organizations also strongly supported the idea.
