BREAKING: NCC reports that voice and internet services have been restored to 90% capacity

The Nigerian Communications Commission recently shared an update regarding the restoration of voice and data services, which were disrupted by undersea cable cuts.

These cuts, occurring along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal on March 14, 2024, impacted telecommunications operations not only in Nigeria but also in 12 other countries.

According to the commission, affected operators have managed to restore about 90 percent of their peak utilization capacities by utilizing recovery capacity from unaffected submarine cables.

This means that mobile network operators have been able to ensure that data and voice services are functioning optimally, at least until the undersea cables are fully repaired.

The NCC expressed gratitude to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the period of downtime caused by the undersea cable cuts.

“We extend our appreciation to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fibre cuts,”

It’s a challenging situation, but the efforts of operators and the cooperation of consumers have helped alleviate the impact and ensure that communication services continue to improve.
